« Nota - All I Want For Christmas Is You | Main | ‘The Sing Off’ Stands Out for NBC »

Sing Off's season opener a delight!

Well I thoroughly enjoyed tonight's opening show of The Sing-Off and thought all the groups did very well. Every group delivered a solid performance with some remarkably strong leads, interesting arrangements and of course plenty of choreography. The judges' comments were, I feel, more appropriate and thoughtful than last year (Ben Folds is insightful as ever) but they did have to send the first two groups home namely Men of Note and Pitch Slapped. I had to smile when judge Shawn made gentle fun of the Whiffenpoofs and their claim of being "the a cappella group that started it all" although I must say their performance was particularly strong tonight.

A nice variety and although skewing quite young it was refreshing to see Jerry Lawson and his group perform. However Nicole, please do note that the rest of the original Persuasions might not appreciate the "godfathers of a cappella" comment about the Talk of the Town. Jerry was just one of the original Persuasions and still the only one to leave the group. The Persuasions meanwhile have just released a new recording.

For those who missed the show you can watch the entire episode for free at Hulu.com.
